Meet Her At The Bar — with FLETCHER

Walking down San Diego’s LGBTQ+ hub of Hillcrest, rainbow flags and flamingo inflatables line the streets, indicating a sense of acceptance and inclusivity. Tucked in the corner of University and Vermont St., the Gossip Grill is one of the city’s most predominant women’s bars and queer spaces known for its drag shows, community involvement, and brunch events.

In celebration of Pride month, Capitol Records artist FLETCHER visited this San Diego staple as one of four stops for her fan-invite-only private experience Meet Her At The Bar. Known for her singles “Undrunk” and “Wasted Youth,” FLETCHER has toured around the world and performed at music festivals like Lollapalooza and Bonnaroo. An activist and member of the LGBTQ+ community, her involvement in supporting queer spaces and organizations is reflected by her work with organizations like The Trevor Project and It Gets Better. FLETCHER’s Meet Her At The Bar experience raised money for woman-owned queer spaces, with proceeds going to GLAAD and being matched by Lyft and by Capitol Records. At its core, Meet Her At The Bar was an appreciation and way to give back to queer spaces that are so vital to the members of the community.

The neon “Welcome Home” sign that illuminated the stage complimented the welcoming energy and magnetic persona emulating FLETCHER. The sense of community was tangible from the second the audience started chanting for her to take the stage and was only amplified by her energy and  interactions with fans. In a stripped-down acoustic set, FLETCHER’s vocals intertwined with the crowd singing along, further cultivating the togetherness that her music conveys. Her performance emulated honesty, confidence, and fun. As well as a live show, FLETCHER’s appearance included drink specials and raffles to support GLAAD and Gossip Grill. These raffles included things like signed body parts and a chance to take a shot with FLETCHER herself. She premiered her new single “Her Body is Bible,” describing the feeling of liberation associated with being allowed to exist as a queer person. It was a hit with the audience, whom she recorded singing along - the overlapping voices of all these different people identifying with the same sentiment was a bittersweet acknowledgment of the progress made and the work left to be done to ensure queer people are safe and accepted.

FLETCHER’s debut album Girl Of My Dreams will be released on September 16th, 2022 accompanied by tour dates starting in October 2022.
